We are now the only scientists in Germany who specifically use the medium of film for research and presentation. The approximately 260 film productions that have been made in recent decades are irreplaceable documents of lost knowledge from agriculture, crafts, industrial work and the diverse regional customs. Today we use the medium of film primarily to document current processes of change and to accompany people in the Rhineland in their lives. This results in films on intercultural phenomena and problems, on the changing world of work, on new forms of social coexistence and on dealing with rituals, customs and traditions.
