Everything you wanted to know about the microbiome and probiotics can be found in a new interview on the IMV Podcast! The topic of microbiome and probiotics is hugely popular right now and we get a lot of questions from you about these areas. Therefore, in the new episode of the IMV Podcast, we welcomed a Slovak expert, Martin Haranta, MSc., who has long been dedicated to international research, publications in prestigious scientific journals and, above all, the transfer of knowledge from science to practice in the field of personalized and targeted modulation of the microbiome. Mr. Haranta is the CEO of Perbiotix, whose nutritional supplements you may know under the iProbio brand. In a comprehensive interview, we systematically discussed everything you might be interested in about the microbiome and probiotics. First, we defined the basic terms, the number of bacteria vs. our cells in the body, the composition of the gut microbiome, the role of the microbiome, the relationship between the microbiome and chronic diseases (obesity, intestinal, skin and psychiatric diseases and others) as well as the effect of artificial sweeteners on the damage to the microbiome. Furthermore, we discussed in detail the commercial testing of the microbiome, which is currently very popular, its benefits, limitations and importance for the targeted therapy of various diseases and possibly also the preparation of personalized probiotics. Furthermore, we analyzed the mechanism of action of probiotics, the real effects on our organism as well as practical questions, whether it is necessary to use probiotics long-term and for whom they are suitable. Specifically, we discussed the question of how to identify quality probiotics and how to store them. We also dealt with the topic of how the effects of solid food containing probiotics (e.g. fermented foods) and probiotics in the form of supplements differ. In the last part of the interview, we explained other concepts such as synbiotics, postbiotics and prebiotics and their importance in human nutrition and in the context of dietary supplements. At the end of the episode, we traditionally devoted space to your questions in the Q&A section, where this time we answered questions about the recommended intake of fiber and whether more expensive foods made us feel more full than cheaper ones.
