A crucial conference organized by the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association (AISM) was held in Rome, bringing together experts, patients and institutional representatives to discuss the importance of diagnostic-therapeutic care pathways (PDTA) in the management of multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica. This event highlighted the importance of integrated and humanized healthcare planning, capable of responding in a concrete and personalized way to the needs of over 140,000 people living with multiple sclerosis in Italy, to which 3,600 new diagnoses are added every year. During the meeting, data from the AISM 2024 Barometer were presented, highlighting the need to improve coordination between healthcare services and ensure equal access to care throughout the country. The topic was a system that is not limited to providing pharmacological therapies, but also includes rehabilitation, psychological support and an interdisciplinary approach, involving specialists from different medical areas. The humanization of services was at the center of the debate, with the aim of building care paths capable of putting the person at the center, respecting their real needs and promoting their overall well-being. The conference also underlined the importance of collaboration between institutions, clinicians and patients to develop replicable and accessible care models, combining the best practices already present in the territory. The adoption of well-structured PDTA not only improves the quality of life of patients, but makes the healthcare system more efficient and sustainable, reducing costs and optimizing resources. This initiative represents a step forward towards an increasingly inclusive healthcare system, where the centrality of the patient and active listening to their needs guide every decision. It is a vision that aims to transform the network of services into an ecosystem that not only cares, but accompanies and supports the person throughout their life path.
