Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev's summer house in Mardakan was built at the beginning of the last century and today the building is more than a century old. When Soviet Russia occupied Azerbaijan in 1920, the philanthropist Taghiyev's property was also taken away. On the instructions of Nariman Narimanov, one of the leaders of the new government, Taghiyev was given the opportunity to choose a property and he chose the summer house in Mardakan to live with his family. Kamilla Abdullayeva, the granddaughter of philanthropist Taghiyev, spoke to BBC Azerbaijani about the return of her mother Safiya khanum to that house and the daily life they spent there. She spoke about the interesting history of the family, who were evicted from the house after Taghiyev's death, and how they later returned to their ancestral homeland. During our correspondent's observations, he saw that the belongings and clothes of patients who had once been treated and died in the building, which was in a neglected state, were still thrown into the rooms. Kamilla Abdullayeva spoke to BBC Azerbaijani correspondent Elnara Mammadova. BBC Azeri: Important, interesting and memorable events happening in Azerbaijan and the world.
