This documentation describes the mining of hard stone, known as kuselite, which is a small to medium-grained magmatic gangue rock with a greenish-grey colour that is used primarily in road construction. In the past, paving stones were produced, but today it is mainly railway ballast and other building materials from sand to chippings. At the beginning of the 20th century, up to 900 people worked there, including women as ballast cutters, but today there are only just over 20 people, mainly as machine operators. The residents of Rammelsbach are now called Wackepicker.
