The winter solstice is approaching. Although we have artificial lighting and heating available today, we still feel the days getting shorter. How did our ancestors experience this period? How did they see the sky above them? When and how did they begin to explore its laws? How did it influence their culture and everyday life? Join us on a journey into the fascinating world of prehistoric and ancient astronomy! We will explore its ancient history – from the first observations of celestial bodies to complex cosmological models. Petra Hyklová (*1984) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences. She deals with the modern history of natural sciences, especially astronomy. She teaches at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University and popularizes the history of science and technology, physics and ecology for schools and the public.
