The leader of the rebels who toppled Bashar al-Assad's regime has told the BBC that Syria is exhausted by the war and poses no threat to its neighbours or the West. Ahmed al-Sharaa led the lightning offensive that led to the fall of President Assad less than two weeks ago. He is the leader of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, a terrorist organisation banned in Russia, and has in recent days sought to allay fears that the new government could restrict women's rights. Al-Sharaa also claims that his group is no longer linked to al-Qaeda, which is also banned as a terrorist organisation. However, many Syrians are sceptical about his claims. Ahmed al-Sharaa spoke to the BBC's Jeremy Bowen in Damascus. Subscribe to our newsletter "Context": https://www.bbc.com/russian/send/u168...
