Originally from Erzurum and born in Ankara, Haluk Tolga İlhan graduated from Bilkent University Opera Singing Department in 2002 and started working at Ankara State Opera and Ballet in 1992. He has been working at Istanbul State Opera and Ballet since 2010. He has played many roles including the leading role in the operas The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, The Bat, The Abduction from the Seraglio and The Merry Widow and won the best tenor award at the Opera Reading Club of Hollywood Competition held in America. While opera formed Haluk Tolga İlhan's professional career, he sought musical difference in folk music. He expressed historical realities by embracing folk music and Anatolian melodies, and the folk songs he sang in this direction created a significant impact on social media and in professional music circles. Having given concerts in many parts of Turkey and Europe, Haluk Tolga İlhan, the soloist and one of the two founders of Grup Abdal, has integrated with the work Ervah-ı Ezelde, and his folk music performances in his albums published under the name #Abdal have been followed with admiration. Haluk Tolga İlhan has contributed to the ownership of folk music, especially among the young population, with the difference he has created in sound and pronunciation without distorting the essence of folk music. Dönen Dönsün Ben Dönmezem Yolumdan was the first album he released on this journey, and this album was followed by Ervah-ı Ezelde, Çerağ-ı Aşk and Hançere, and finally, in 2017, he released the album Dara Duran. He continues his vocal lessons, which he gives at Boğaziçi University Graduates Association, in the form of workshops at the Haluk Tolga İlhan Music Center, which he opened under his own name.
