Working in the laboratory, with heavy machinery, and constantly monitoring processes. But ... the most challenging thing about his job is making the right decisions at any time of day. Andreas Briegel is a chemical technician in Illertissen. The 30-year-old works shifts in a chemical company and produces a cholesterol-lowering fat that the food industry uses for margarine or yoghurt. We accompanied him on his early shift and experienced monitoring, alarms and dangers. As a chemical technician, Andy is responsible for ensuring that the fat production in his plant runs smoothly. If he does not monitor the chemical processes closely and overlooks faults, it would "lose a lot of money" for the company, he says. He can observe and control machines from the control room. Alarm signals also sound regularly here. These can be harmless and indicate certain steps in the process, but they can also mean the "worst case": power failure. "That's the exciting thing, you never know what's coming," says Andy. On inspection tours through the plant, the chemical technician checks whether everything is running as planned. For example, he checks whether hot fat is leaking or valves are frozen. He also takes random samples and analyses them in the laboratory. Sometimes it can be really physically demanding when he pours or loads raw materials. This variety and "good money" are what appeals to Andy about the job, which can sometimes be really dangerous. As an additional qualification, the chemical technician has a trainer's certificate and shows apprentices like 18-year-old Lukas how to analyse acid or handle packages with 500 kilograms of solid fat without injuring themselves. Andy can imagine becoming a trainer or shift manager later on. As always, you can find out more about his professional career and his salary in the pinned comment. This is "Is it worth it?": One person, one job, one life. And at the end of the day, the question: Is it worth it? We accompany people in their jobs and show their lives. Is it worth it to work for the salary and use it to finance your own life? What makes me happy about work? We don't just compare salaries, we show how people live from their work. We are always looking for protagonists: If you also want to show how you live with your job, you are welcome to write to [email protected]! On a personal note: We are not infallible either - and although we make every effort to present every individual financial situation clearly, correctly and understandably, we sometimes need help. The Bavarian State Association of Tax Advisors and Auditors always provides us with competent support in this regard - thank you very much for that!
