Con Tien was an important US military base during the Vietnam War, now located in Gio Son commune, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri. There was always a Marine Corps unit stationed here with a system of trenches and solid bunkers on the hill surrounded by barbed wire fences interspersed with minefields. Along with nearly 20 other military bases, Con Tien was built by the US as part of the McNamara electronic fence system to detect and prevent the Liberation Army from moving along the Ho Chi Minh trail from North to South. Many fierce battles took place here from February 1967 to early 1969 and other battles around the area. According to statistics, from March 1967 to February 1969, more than 1,400 US soldiers died and more than 9,000 others were injured. In a battle that took place outside the Con Tien base in early July 1967 in Gio An commune, the Liberation Army ambushed and heavily damaged two US Marine companies. And this victory was the inspiration for military musician Huy Thuc to write the song Tieng Dan Ta Lu, which includes the details of the Gio An battle drum, the drum that the Liberation Army beat to signal the attack on the US soldiers. -------------------------------------- If you find the video interesting, don't forget to click LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and SHARE. ▶️ Channel address: https://www.youtube.com/c/TungTangKhác... ▶️ For more information, please contact: [email protected].
