3D printing is revolutionising the world of industry. From a small household item to the fuselage of an aircraft or even a house, almost everything can be printed. But human organs can also be printed in synthetic materials that clinicians can use to plan their operations, or living organs, whose construction uses stem cells instead of inks or plastics. What seems like science fiction is now a reality. Human skin can now be generated by printing the three layers of the epidermis with cells from the individual himself. It is also possible to manufacture a damaged bone or cartilage and implant it in a patient without causing rejection. The manufacture of other more complex organs such as a liver or a kidney is not far off.
