Nearly six million tourists are tempted by the Dominican Republic each year. Punta Cana, on the east coast of the country, is one of the largest tourist resorts in the world. A nine-hour flight from France, it is 30°C in the shade all year round. This is where the first all-inclusive hotel was built. Since then, a hundred resorts have lined up along these kilometers of coastline. They belong to large international hotel chains. They engage in a price war to attract vacationers from all over the world. But to keep this tourist factory running, costs are driven down.
