Ong Do Cave was originally a 155mm American artillery base located on a hill 275m above sea level, called Anne Base. This was a stronghold in the west of Quang Tri province, bordering the majestic Truong Son mountain range, to protect Quang Tri town from afar and control the road from the mountainous region to the plains. After the Americans withdrew their troops, the base was handed over to the ARVN. In the fiery summer of 1972, the Liberation Army attacked and took control of Quang Tri province, then the ARVN organized a counterattack to retake it in the largest and most fierce campaign of the Vietnam War. At that time, the 7th Battalion, the main force of the Airborne Division, attacked Ong Do Cave, where soldiers of the 304th Division of the Liberation Army were stationed. In a tense battle that lasted for several months, they finally succeeded in retaking it. The battle ended with both sides suffering heavy losses, with the 7th Parachute Battalion alone suffering about 1 company of casualties. Currently, on Ong Do Cave, a stele house has been built to commemorate the Liberation Army soldiers who died in the fierce battle of the past. -------------------------------------- If you find the video interesting, don't forget to click LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and SHARE. ▶️ Channel address: https://www.youtube.com/c/TungTangKhác... ▶️ For more information, please contact: [email protected].
