We recognize the greatest love that there is of all time on the cross on Golgotha. There Jesus died for the sins of the world. He took upon himself the punishment for our guilt that we deserve. Jesus knew that there was no other way to be reconciled with God. That is why he accepted death on the cross. Jesus suffered unspeakable pain. Nevertheless, he prayed for those who caused him so much suffering. HE cried out: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." There, on the hill of Golgotha, two criminals were crucified together with Jesus. One of them mocked Jesus just as the soldiers did. But the other crucified man rebuked him and said: "Do you not even fear God, who are in the same condemnation? We are right to do so, for we receive what our deeds deserve; But this man has done nothing wrong." Then he turned to Jesus and said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus answered him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise." How great was the difference between the two criminals? One mocked Jesus, but the other reflected. He even asked Jesus to remember him when he came into his kingdom. Jesus not only heard the criminal's words, but he looked into his heart. He realized that he was sorry for his sins and that a change had already taken place in his heart. Jesus answered him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise." We see that one of these two criminals was saved. He received the promise from Jesus that he would go to heaven. The other, on the other hand, went into eternity without forgiveness of his sins. We know from other places in the Bible that those who die without forgiveness must appear before the judgment of God. There they will receive the just punishment for their guilt and go into eternal damnation. The criminal who mocked Jesus also had the opportunity to repent and receive forgiveness for his guilt. But he did not do it. How Jesus would have loved to give him forgiveness. But that was not possible. He opposed Jesus. The great love of God is still there for everyone today. It is also there for you. Do you accept this love? Do you want forgiveness for your guilt? Then choose Jesus! Accept him into your life as Savior and Lord! ---------------- You can find more information about Wilhelm Pahls at: www.wilhelm-pahls.de Get an overview of important fundamental themes in the Bible.
