Indonesia stands at the top of the world as the largest palm oil producer, producing more than 47 million tons in 2023. Behind its success, 16.2 million people depend on this industry for their livelihood. The rapid growth of the palm oil industry has had dire consequences. 3 million hectares of tropical forests have been lost in the last two decades, triggering the erosion of biodiversity and contributing to global climate change. So, can we really live without palm oil? Palm oil has penetrated our lives, from cooking oil to other everyday products. But on the other hand, sustainable practices offer hope. Maybe it's not about eliminating palm oil, but about how we manage it more wisely. Will palm oil be the solution or will it remain a problem for the future of the earth?
