Please wait for English subtitles ... design fun:D EP. 145 - In this episode, I'll take a look at the largest house I've ever photographed. This is a 6-story, 6,000-square-meter vertical house designed to look like a 6-column barcode. The house consists of 6 main units: 4 residential units for the owner + 1 common area unit + 1 service area and parking unit. This house received the Silver Medal for Outstanding Architecture 2024 in the Residential Building category from the Association of Siamese Architects and the Best of the Best award from the ICONIC Awards 2023 / Innovation Architecture. What's interesting about this house is its design in the city with limited space, so it had to be designed as a tall, vertical house. We may have seen vertical houses that clearly separate each floor, making the space inside the house not conducive to relationships between family members. Plus, there are limitations in terms of natural light, ventilation, views, or connections between floors. But the architects from A49HD were able to solve all the above problems by arranging the interior space like a game of Tetris or a jigsaw puzzle, with the circulation axis or pathway in the middle and separated into residential units on the left and right wings of the house. Each unit is in the form of a duplex that overlaps on each floor. Personally, I think that when we listen to the concept, it may feel complicated. But when we actually use it, it turns out that the flow of usage is very good. House members have a common area that can be easily connected, while at the same time having private space that does not disturb each other. This is another project that makes us see the value of design in how it can create a good experience and quality of life for users. And I think this house will be a very good prototype that shows us the possibilities of vertical houses in the future.
