#protestant #catholic #idolatry #idolater Why do Catholics worship statues in violation of Ex 20:4-5? Are they idolaters? God does not forbid statues and images. The proof: in the Bible, he prescribes certain representations or statues. Thus the two golden cherubim on the Ark of the Covenant (Ex 25:18-20) or the bronze serpent in the desert (Numbers 21: The Israelites were even to look at this bronze serpent – and not worship it! – to be saved from the bite of snakes. This effigy of the serpent was the prefiguration of the crucified Christ who saves from sin: cf. Jn 3:14.) These statues are obviously not idols to be worshiped. They are prescribed as signs of the protective and saving presence of God, intended to awaken the faith and trust of the Israelites. They are therefore signs. And you, what do you think?
