The Commander of the Faithful (PBUH) said to Kumayl ibn Ziyad al-Nakha’i: “If you memorize this supplication, then supplicate with it every Friday night, or once a month, or once a year, or once in your life, and you will be protected, victorious, and provided for, and you will never be deprived of forgiveness.” It was also narrated that Kumayl ibn Ziyad al-Nakha’i saw the Commander of the Faithful (PBUH) prostrating and supplicating with this supplication on the night of the middle of Sha’ban. Salman Akbar O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy that encompasses all things, and by Your power by which You have subdued all things, and to which all things have submitted, and to which all things have been humbled, and by Your might by which You have overcome all things, and by Your glory before which nothing can stand, and by Your greatness that has filled all things, and by Your authority that is above all things, and by Your face that remains after the annihilation of all things, By Your names that fill the corners of everything, and by Your knowledge that encompasses everything, and by the light of Your face that illuminates everything, O Light, O Holy One, O First of the firsts and O Last of the lasts. O God, forgive me the sins that violate the bond. O God, forgive me the sins that bring down punishments. O Allah, forgive me the sins that change blessings. O Allah, forgive me the sins that prevent supplication. O Allah, forgive me the sins that bring down calamity. O Allah, forgive me for every sin I have committed and every mistake I have made. O Allah, I seek nearness to You through Your remembrance, and I seek Your intercession for myself through You. I ask You by Your generosity to bring me close to You, to grant me Your gratitude, and to inspire me with Your remembrance. O Allah, I ask You as one who is submissive, humble, and humble, to forgive me and have mercy on me, and to make me content and satisfied with Your portion, and humble in all circumstances. O Allah, I ask You as one whose need is intense, who comes to You in times of hardship with his need, and whose desire for what is with You is great. O Allah, Your authority is great, Your position is high, Your deceit is hidden, Your command is apparent, Your power is overwhelming, Your might is pervasive, and it is not possible to escape from Your rule. O Allah, I find no one to forgive my sins, no one to cover my faults, and no one to replace any of my bad deeds with good except You. There is no god but You. Glory be to You and praise be to You. I have wronged myself, and I have acted boldly in my ignorance, and I have settled for Your old remembrance of me and Your favors upon me. O God, my Master, how many ugly things You have concealed, how many great afflictions You have removed, how many stumbling blocks You have protected, how many evils You have warded off, and how many beautiful praises You have spread that I am not worthy of. O Allah, my affliction is great, my condition is excessive, my deeds are inadequate, my shackles have held me back, my distant hope has prevented me from benefiting, the world has deceived me with its deception, my soul with its treachery, and my waiting, O my Master, so I ask You by Your glory that my bad deeds and actions not hide my supplication from You, and do not disgrace me with the hidden secrets that You have learned about, and do not hasten to punish me for what I have done. I did it in my solitude because of my bad deeds and wrongdoings, my constant negligence and ignorance, my many desires and my heedlessness. O Allah, by Your might, be merciful to me in all circumstances, and be compassionate to me in all matters. My God and my Lord, who do I have other than You to ask to remove my distress and look into my affair? My God and my Master, You have decreed a judgment upon me in which I followed my own desires and did not guard against the adornment of my enemy. He deceived me with what I desired and made him happy with that judgment. I transgressed some of Your limits by what happened to me and disobeyed some of Your commands. So all praise is due to You for all of that, and I have no argument regarding what Your judgment happened to me in, and Your judgment and trial forced me to do. I have come to You, my God, after my shortcomings and transgressions against myself, apologizing, regretting, broken, resigning, seeking forgiveness, turning back, acknowledging, submitting, and confessing. I find no escape from what I have done, nor a refuge to which I can turn in my matter, other than Your acceptance of my apology and Your admission of me into the vastness of Your mercy.
