We would like to introduce you to our Great Dhünn Dam and the people who ensure its safe operation. The Dhünn is the largest tributary of the Wupper. Its catchment area is rainy and sparsely populated from its sources to just before Odenthal. It is therefore suitable for drinking water production. The Dhünn Dam with a reservoir capacity of 7.5 million m³ was built between 1960 and 1962. During the 1960s, the demand for drinking water increased, making it necessary to build a larger reservoir. In June 1971, the Wupper Association decided to build the Great Dhünn Dam. It was built between 1975 and 1985 and put into operation in 1987. With a reservoir capacity of 81 million m³, the Great Dhünn Dam is one of the largest drinking water reservoirs in Germany.
