This is a service that is familiar to the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect (Nishi Honganji). The following explanation is given in the Daily Practice Scriptures. Explanation: This is a hymn in which Saint Shinran concisely explains the teachings of Jodo Shinshu in the Gyō-kan of Kyogyoshinshō. Shinran believed in Amida Buddha's original vow and was deeply grateful for the joy of encountering the teachings of Nembutsu through the guidance of the Sutra of Immeasurable Life and seven high priests from India, China, and Japan. Wasan is a song that praises the spirit of Kyogyoshinshō in Japanese (Japanese words). The eighth patriarch, Rennyo Shonin, added Nembutsu to the Shoshinge Nembutsu-ge and Wasan, and established it as the Jodo Shinshu service.
