Today I am launching into sharing with you a reflection that arises from a very special space: the last episode of #EnDefensaPropia of 2024. This end of the year made me question deeply about what we are looking for when we pause in our lives, and who better than my dear friend Catalina Goerke to guide this conversation. Catalina is a psychotherapist, meditation teacher, and facilitator of transformation processes; a woman who, with her work, has led many people to confront themselves and discover new perspectives in spaces of silence and introspection. Catalina and I talked about a topic that excites me a lot: spiritual retreats. This February 2025 we are going to do one together, called Expanded, a space designed to remember who we are, reprogram our beliefs and reinvent ourselves in magical Mérida, Yucatán. A perfect gift to start the year! Catalina shared how retreats have transformed her life and how these spaces allow us to pause, disconnect from the noise and look at ourselves honestly. The conversation led me to reflect on the power of silence. Catalina spoke about her first retreat, in India in 2008, where, as an architect, wife and mother, she felt the call to confront herself. That moment marked a before and after in her life. In her words, retreats are a space to rethink the life we have built, ask ourselves if it really represents us and open ourselves to profound transformations. It is a brave act, because, as she said, what scares us the most is our own truth, the one we sometimes prefer to evade. Catalina also mentioned something that resonated deeply with me: the fear we have of being alone with ourselves. It's funny how we can be so afraid of what we carry inside. However, in those spaces designed for introspection, where the environment and dynamics take us away from our routine, something magical happens: we reconnect with our essence, with our answers, with that part of us that longs to be heard. And what can we say about the impact that these retreats have on the community. Catalina highlighted how the simple act of sharing our vulnerabilities and listening to those of others reflects us, inspires us, and gives us permission to heal. How much power there is in human connection! I am excited to imagine what this retreat in Mérida will be like, surrounded by nature, sharing learnings and discovering new parts of myself through others. On the other hand, I feel immense gratitude for the learnings that this year has left me. From my newsletters to the launch of my book Reinventada: 20 cartas de la reinventación, I have been able to capture my transformation and share tools that I hope will continue to inspire our community. This retreat will be an extension of that search: a space to delve deeper into what it means to reinvent yourself, face fears, and embrace change. And while it may sound intimidating, this process is liberating. As Catalina said, retreats teach us to let go of what no longer serves us, to find courage in our truths, and to redirect our lives with intention. It is a gift of self-love, especially on a date like Valentine's Day, where we often look to others for what we must first find in ourselves. So I close this year with gratitude and with an invitation: to stop, to listen to ourselves, to give ourselves space to grow and connect with our purpose. Because, as I learned in this conversation, stopping is also moving forward. See you in Mérida, ready to expand and begin 2025 with an open heart and mind. Happy New Year! 💫
