Brazil is facing its eighth heat wave in 2024. The consequence here in RS is an increase in rainfall. Dry air increases the risk of fires in several regions of the country. As a result, in addition to the worsening air quality, sky visibility should also be affected by the presence of smoke. In the rest of the country, temperatures may be between 3ºC and 5ºC above average, with highs close to 40ºC. So-called extreme weather events will become increasingly frequent. Given this, what urban strategies can we adopt? How should cities prepare to face suffocating temperatures or floods like the one we recently experienced? Conversas Cruzadas - REPRISE this Friday (27), hosted by presenter Léo Saballa Jr, welcomed the chief climatologist of the Geography Department at UFRGS, Francisco Aquino, and the architect, urban planner and CEO of Space Hunters, Francisco Zancan, to discuss how long cities will be able to withstand extreme weather.
