The only pirate MEP, Markéta Gregorová, has concerns about the direction and strength of the EU in the context of the growing influence of politicians such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. "The majority of their voters do not want an authoritarian regime, but they are afraid, so they vote a little more conservatively. This appeals to Fico-type populists. They can then incredibly easily monetize that fear into voter votes," says Gregorová in the Crunch podcast with Čestmír Stakatý. He says that the Slovak prime minister is a "coward" in connection with his recent appearance on Russian state television. And he also criticizes the weak "courageous" Prime Minister Petr Fiala, with whom the Pirates were in the government until recently. "I criticized our participation in the cabinet for three years, but you can see how good team players we were all that time. Pirates still have something to offer Czech politics. There is still room for real efficiency of the state instead of cronyism," he claims. In the podcast, he also talks about the EU's defense policy and claims that the world is slowly turning into a spiral of wars. Dependence on the US and lack of coordination in the field of defense weakens the EU and makes it easy prey for powers such as Russia and China. Does Gregorova define herself as a "leftist"? Why was she upset by the debate surrounding the upcoming cybersecurity law? Did the Pirates betray their voters when the Uloz.to server ended under their rule? And what does Gregorová take away from the observation mission during the Georgian elections? Listen to the entire podcast!
