Impressionist painters set up their easels on the magnificent site of Crozant, now renamed the Valley of Painters. In Aubusson, upholsterers created a style of ornamentation that warmed and decorated all the castles of Europe while the craftsmen masons who built the cathedrals and Haussmann's Paris are mostly from the villages of the region.
