It is one of the mythical peaks of the Pyrenees. A mountain whose shape makes it recognizable from the plains of Aquitaine. A totem that culminates at 2,884 meters, which has become the emblem of a valley that has always lived under its tutelage. It watches over a corner of paradise in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park with its incredible wealth, where respectful hikers have their place. A summer pasture that in summer becomes the home of thousands of animals, where shepherds perpetuate the pastoralism that gives these mountains their soul. As we climb towards the Ayous refuge, we will meet women and men for whom this valley of Haut Béarn is a place of work and wonder. Didier Peyrusqué, a ranger at the Pyrenees National Park, is one of the best vulture specialists, a passion he willingly shares with a touch of mischief… Pierre-Jean Pradalier and Soize Le Floch are the guardians of the Ayous refuge, facing the Pic du Midi, they welcome and watch over hikers who pass through their home.
