Major milestone achieved in the major Altona Tunnel project After the successful half-bridge demolition of the Behringstrasse, Osdorfer Weg and Bahrenfelder Chaussee overpasses in March 2021, the Altona project began construction of the first tunnel cells on the last two weekends in July 2022. Work will initially take place in the area of the Osdorfer Weg and Bahrenfelder Chaussee overpasses. Two longer weekend closures were required to lay the prefabricated girders. DEGES, which took over the planning and construction on behalf of Autobahn GmbH, has thus achieved another major milestone in the Altona Tunnel project by laying the 80 prefabricated girders. Four large cranes were used to lay the 50-ton, 25-meter-long prefabricated girders. In addition, the Elbtunnel tunnel operation with maintenance work in all four Elbtunnel tubes and the adjacent DEGES projects in the south of the Elbe, replacement construction of the K30 dam structure and extension of the Elbmarsch elevated road K20, have contributed extensively to the closure with further measures so that further closures could be avoided.
