The Somasjärvi - Valtijoki - Poroeno - Lätäseno route has been described as Finland's most demanding, most dangerous and most natural kayaking route. My friend Petteri Veijonen (Wild Adventures North) and I set out to paddle this route with Packrafts. The hike took a total of 7 days from Somasjärvi to Markkina. The route is really challenging. Valtijoki's rapids and waterfalls have not even been classified, so independent reading of rapids and good navigation skills are vital. The route goes through the entire wilderness of the arm and is mostly really far from everything. As a rule, the phone cannot find the network. There have also been accidents on this route. I don't want anyone inspired by this video to practice high-risk sports in the wilderness, without the necessary skills and preparation. I think good hiking and wilderness survival skills are a prerequisite for anyone considering this route. Raft reading and rafting skills then come next. The route has several hills, falls and rapids of class 5-6, so you can easily get there if you don't know what you're doing. I want to emphasize this topic because we have come to know about an accident that happened after our trip in Runkkakoski. They had started the trip as obviously inexperienced and with insufficient preparation.
