Whether it was from the evil eye or fate, some were targeted by blind bullets, some burned to death in traffic accidents, and some said goodbye very early. This is the tragic story of a music group where sadness, grief, tears of loss and bad news came one after another, and disasters were never far from them... They could never get rid of the dead soil, so to speak... You may remember their records and cassettes from your family's collection, or maybe you got to know them through the Hababam class, or you didn't even know there was such a group... The group Beyaz Kelebekleri was founded in 1964 by Rıfat Eke, Altan Eke, Ender Akacan, Behzat Kutlubağ and Bülent Ortaç, who were students at Kabataş High School. They became world famous with their songs such as Sen Gitince, Ateşböceği, Kara Kaşlı Yar, Tüm Aşklar Tatlı Başları, and stayed at the top of the song charts for months even in Holland. They took the dust off the stages with their Anatolian tours and European concerts, and became a household name with their songs. But this group has such a dramatic story that hearts can't stand it. When the group was founded in 1964, there were 5 people. Later, they took 7-year-old guitarist Ermünent Ateş and soloist Ayşe Sütçü among them. They started giving concerts in the promotional draws of the newspapers of the time. They started professional music life when famous musician Turgut Akyüz joined them. In 1967, when their soloist Ayşe Sütçü got married and quit music, they took Azize as the new soloist. In 1968, when Azize (Gencebay) was a soloist, they stayed in the palace for 14 days as a guest of the Shah of Iran and gave a concert. In late 1969, their soloist Azize married Orhan Genceba, quit music and left the group. They took Ülkü Üstü as the soloist to replace Azize. Whatever happened, happened after Ülkü Üstü became the soloist. Beyaz Kelebekler entered 1970 with great hopes. They were about to reap the fruits of 6 years. They had increased the number of musicians in the group from six to seven, they were appearing at the biggest casinos in Istanbul, and they were bringing joy to thousands of music lovers every night. Everything was as the White Butterflies wanted until Sunday, January 18, 1970. They were climbing towards the top. However, a disaster occurred on the night between Sunday and Monday. The White Butterflies got into two cars after their program at Maksim on Sunday night and were going to a concert in Adapazarı. In the car in front were their manager Turgut Akyüz, Ercüment Ateş and Ender Akarcan. In the Chevrolet behind were the brothers Altan and Rıfat Eke and Behzat Kutlubağ, the group's female vocalist Ülkü Üst and Bülent Ortaç... The journey to Eşme village had gone very well. They were joking around and talking about the next concert. Right at that moment, at 01:15, Azrael pulled up in front of the White Butterflies in a truck. All the driver's efforts were in vain. A terrible brake noise, the Chevrolet turning upside down and upside down on the slippery street and rolling down a ravine… The gas tank had exploded. The great courage of the truck driver played a role in the rescue of the driver and the other two White Butterflies. Despite rolling down a ravine after the collision, the driver jumped out of his truck, approached the burning car and, without caring that his hands were burned, pulled his fellow driver and the other two White Butterflies out. Unfortunately, the three White Butterflies could not be saved because they were unconscious and the flames were already engulfing the surroundings. According to the information given by the government doctor, even if the three White Butterflies had not burned, they would not have been saved. Because the body of Behzat Kutlubağ, who was sitting in the back, was cut open from his neck to his groin at the moment of the accident. Altan and Rifat Eke also had large holes in their skulls.'' In the early hours of January 19, 1970, a terrible traffic accident caused three band members to burn to death and the White Butterflies to have their arms and wings broken... Behzat was 23, Rıfat was 24, Altan was 27... These three bright young men were everything to the White Butterflies. All three of them were studying at the same school, the private Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences in Şişli. At a time when they were looking to the future with hope and confidence, in the prime of their lives, death had hastily taken them from our stages and plunged their friends and all of Turkey into indescribable pain. Their tears turned into sobs in the Şişli Mosque on January 21. The interest in the White Butterflies' funeral ceremony was huge. The courtyard of the Şişli Mosque was completely full. If a needle were dropped, there would be no place left to fall in the huge courtyard. Three musalla stones, three coffins, three imams... Five of the remaining White Butterflies were locked in their coffins. They were shaking and crying. Their manager Turgut Akyüz's eyes were bloodshot. His face was pale. He kept shaking his head. His lips were moving, but it was hard to understand what he was saying. Bülent Ortaç was one of the survivors of the accident. Despite his foot being swollen like a log, he came to the mosque to perform his last duty, leaning on crutches. The little tambourine player Ercüment Ateş (the child of the deceased Behzat's aunt) was literally in a miserable state.
