During Wednesday's briefing in the Riigikogu, EKRE faction chairman Martin Helme asked Prime Minister Kristen Michal whether the words spoken by the head of the defense forces about blowing up Estonian infrastructure and evacuating all of Estonia are the government's position. Martin Helme: "We read last week that the head of the defense forces, Andrus Merilo, had gone to speak somewhere and made very sensational statements, where he talked about the fact that the risk of a major war between NATO and Russia has increased significantly, and if this war breaks out, then, based on our geographical location, we are very likely to be a hotbed of war. And if that happens, and this possibility is great in his opinion, then the entire territory of Estonia will be a war territory and then we will have to start blowing up all kinds of things, bridges and other objects. And maybe we have to start evacuating the population not just from one region of Estonia to another, but to evacuate the entire Estonian people from Estonia. I don't want this conversation to somehow fall on the topic that EKRE doesn't like the statements of senior military officers again, because I have the feeling that maybe a senior military officer expressed views that the government does not dare to express and put them in his tank. So I have several very serious questions about his speech. Is this the end of the myth that we have safe hands and that Estonia is better protected than ever before and that the Reform Party is the guarantor of our security? Do we now have to leave this embarrassing story aside and the truth is what Merilo told us? Secondly, my question is, if that is the case, why did we give away, if this is the reality we are in, why have we given away, under the leadership of the Reform Party, our guns, our ammunition, our pioneer equipment, our anti-tank equipment, our anti-aircraft equipment , that we are naked right now? Thirdly, I have a question that if Merilo is going to blow up bridges, warehouses, ports, factories, I don't know what else, do we even have this explosive anymore? And the most important question, where does the government intend to evacuate the Estonians, by what route, by what means and where do we have to return, if the war ends here as planned? Since the prime minister essentially did not answer the questions, Martin Helme repeated: "I just said in my mind that I don't want to argue with the head of the Defense Forces here. Never wanted to. I have wanted to have a political discussion, and we have not been able to have it in Estonia for three years, because as soon as you don't praise the genius plans of the Reform Party, no matter in what area, be it the budget or tax increases or something else, you are immediately a Putinist. That's how we've had this discussion here for the last three years. And his speech comes as a surprise. In my opinion, if we read the Estonian mainstream media and are still so stupid as to believe it, any of it, it still comes as a complete surprise that a war is about to break out, during this war a large part of Estonia will be blown up and the Estonian people will be evacuated get out of here That was the distillation of that speech. And my question to the head of government is how close is this war. And this must be communicated to us by the government, not by the head of the Defense Forces. This is political responsibility here, and this is political communication. So what is the risk now, what is the risk assessment now? We all understand that the government will take the first boat away. Now a new plan has been added to it, that the entire nation will be taken away from Estonia. Where? I hope not by train to Siberia. But where and with what? And where do we come back from here, as Kaja Kalla said at one time, first the war goes one way, then the war goes the other way, and our own army also blows up everything that can be blown up.
