The collared parakeet, a beautiful green parrot of quite large size, has been included on the list of Polish birds, and not as a species that occasionally visits us, but as a nesting species. The collared parakeets naturally occur in Africa and India, and for centuries have also been willingly kept in homes as ornamental animals. About 100 years ago, they were also bred in Europe. It turned out that birds escaping from home breeding and zoos can survive the European winter and even breed in colder regions of Europe. The invasion of parrots gradually began to cover Western European countries and it was only a matter of time before it reached us. The first successful breeding of the collared parakeet was recorded a few years ago in Nysa, and to this day this city is unique in the history of the conquest of Polish lands by parrots.
