Flames burst out of the window and deep black smoke rose. A fire in a high-rise building in Leipzig ended in the death of one person. According to various media, up to 54 people were injured. A major operation lasting several hours for the fire brigade, rescue service and police. At around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon on May 23, two fire engines and a squad leader made their way to Philipp-Rosenthal-Strasse in the south-east of Leipzig. A fire was reported in a high-rise building. At the same time, a large contingent of rescue services and police were deployed. Even on the way, the forces could see massive smoke development. The two rescue helicopters that were called out certainly had a very spectacular view of this. Firefighting was initiated immediately, and a third fire engine was called in. One seriously injured person had to be resuscitated and was then taken to hospital, where he later died. Several evacuated people were also injured or were classified as affected when they were examined. Despite the large number of injured and affected people, the screening, care and transport were only carried out by the regular rescue service. There was no SEG at the scene.
