The Inn of the Seas: https://diazvillanueva.com/la-posada-... Africa is part of what we know as the Old World, but despite this it was not fully explored until the end of the 19th century. Below the Sahara Desert, only the coasts that the Portuguese had mapped with great zeal during their expeditions in the 15th and 16th centuries were known. The rest was completely unknown. The Europeans were simply not interested in going beyond the coast. All this changed after the Napoleonic Wars and the independence of the American republics. Africa became the new Dorado for the Europeans, who were quick to explore the basins of the Congo, Niger and Zambezi rivers. Exploration was followed by sharing. All the powers wanted their share of the cake. The industrial revolution had begun and they needed raw materials and new markets. This could be done by hard or by good means by reaching peaceful agreements and delimiting the areas of influence. There were wars, but few. In general terms, the Europeans agreed to share Africa amicably at a conference held in Berlin between 1884 and 1885. This is what we are going to see today in ContraHistoria, the division of an entire continent by only seven countries: the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Spain.
