Steam locomotive C62 No. 3 was manufactured in 1948 (Showa 23) at Hitachi's Kasado Works (Kudamatsu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture) and operated on the Tokaido Main Line and Sanyo Main Line. In 1956, it was modified to be cold- and snow-resistant at the Naebo Works in Sapporo City, Hokkaido, and was assigned to the Otaru Chikko Locomotive Depot, where it operated on the Hakodate Main Line. Its role ended in 1973 and it was scrapped in 1976, but restoration work began at the Otaru Chikko Locomotive Depot in 1985, and it was revived and ran again from April 1988 to November 1995, delighting many railroad fans.
