Directly opposite the Madenburg, on the northern side, there is a completely unknown and unexcavated knight's castle from the Middle Ages. This complex is much larger than the Madenburg itself and probably just as old or even older. In my opinion, this is perhaps the Parthenopolis castle (Greek for "virgin city"), where the assembly of princes was supposed to take place in 1076 to discuss the deposition of the Salian Emperor Henry IV. If this meeting actually took place in the 11th century, then I think there is a high probability that it was here in this forgotten fortress and not in the Madenburg. Unfortunately, no documentary evidence has survived that could prove this, because this castle was probably destroyed in the 11th or 12th century and not rebuilt. But even if it is not the Parthenopolis complex mentioned, it is still a very interesting castle that should definitely be explored. I hope you enjoy it!
