Alireza Asgari was a retired IRGC Brigadier General, Deputy Minister of Defense of Iran in Mohammad Khatami's government and a blogger who disappeared in Türkiye in late 2007. Reports about his abduction were published by American and Israeli intelligence agencies. Speculations about his abduction to cooperation with Western intelligence services were published, the truth of which is not clear. On December 27, 2010, the Israeli newspapers Ha'aretz and Yediot Akhronot posted news on their websites, quoting one of Ehud Barak's relatives, claiming that Alireza Asgari committed suicide in his cell in Ayalon prison.
