How does reading change our brain? What happens in our brain system when we read? Is there a cerebral architecture for reading? Enlightened by neuroscience, delve into the mysteries of our brain during the reading process. If our genes did not evolve to allow us to learn to read, it is writing that evolved in order to take into account the constraints of our brain. However, one question remains: why is the human species the only one, among primates, to have invented spoken or written symbols? ENS-PSL invites you to watch the full lecture given by Stanislas Dehaene, holder of the chair of cognitive and experimental psychology at the Collège de France and member of the Academy of Sciences. 00:00 ►Introduction 02:35 ► The time course of reading 03:47 ► The brain architecture of reading 13:38 ► How does reading change our brain? 24:13 ► Does the anatomy of the brain change when we learn to read? 31:47 ► What is the neural code of written words? 41:40 ► Do we lose certain skills when we learn to read? 46:52 ► How are cognitive sciences relevant to school learning?
