A border ship under the command of Alexey Nikitin detains foreign fishermen who have grossly violated the borders of the Soviet Union. The hero must find out the motives of the foreigners. Lieutenant Nikitin is the captain of a military ship that monitors border waters. One day, he recorded an illegal crossing of the Soviet border by a Japanese vessel, the Miki-18. Alexey tries to find out why the fishermen invaded foreign waters. The crew explains this incident as a critical situation. However, the experienced commander notices many details that arouse suspicion. In order not to provoke an international scandal, the hero must find irrefutable evidence of espionage.
