The problem begins when, in our pursuit of perfection, we start setting unrealistic goals for ourselves and others, leaving no room for error. Does being a perfectionist improve the quality of our lives? What are the consequences of excessive demands that are difficult to meet? Can a perfectionist cope with criticism? Dr. Konrad Piotrowski talks about what perfectionism is, how it arises, and where it leads. Perfectionism. What is it, how it arises, and where it leads? The desire to improve oneself, striving for the ideal, searching for ways to do something better, to jump over the bar suspended a little higher than before, are behaviors that are in many ways characteristic of our species. After all, we owe the extraordinary progress that humanity has made over the last few hundred years to this pursuit. However, in today's societies, strongly focused on the quality of task performance, the constant pursuit of ideal standards, which leaves no room for making mistakes, is often considered by us without paying attention to the consequences of this pursuit. During the lecture, we discussed what perfectionism is, how it manifests itself, and what impact it can have on our professional and family life. The mechanisms responsible for the development of perfectionism were also presented. About the speaker: Dr. Konrad Piotrowski - development psychologist, interested primarily in the period of adolescence and early adulthood. In his scientific work, he deals with identity development, i.e. the process of searching for an answer to one of the most important questions that a person asks himself during his life: Who am I? In recent years, he has been investigating the relationship between disability and the type of school a teenager attends and building identity. He is currently exploring the issue of perfectionism and looking for answers to the question of how perfectionists shape their identity. He is a member of the Polish Association of Developmental Psychology, a participant in many scientific and popular science conferences, and the author of scientific papers in the field of developmental psychology. At SWPS University in Poznań, he teaches classes such as: introduction to psychology, psychology of human development in the life cycle, methodology, and statistics. He also acts as a mentor in the scientific module, preparing students for scientific work, and supervises the Research Scientific Club of SWPS University. About the project: The Psyche Zone of SWPS University is an innovative undertaking, the aim of which is to popularize psychological knowledge at the highest substantive level and to discover the possibilities of action offered by psychology in various spheres of both private and professional life. We want to show the practical application of psychological knowledge not only in the spheres obvious for this field of science (e.g. assistance, therapy), but also in the business sector and advanced, modern technologies.
