The invasion was perfectly executed. Taking control of the country ruled by Manuel Noriega took basically 5 days. Most of the bases of the Panamanian defense forces were captured. In the meantime, President George Bush held regular meetings with journalists, explaining his decision to attack as caring for democracy and defending American citizens in Panama. Why did this invasion take place? In the latest episode of the Postwar series, I try to show the broader context of these events. Who was Manuel Noriega. Why did a former ally become an enemy?
