One of the things we work on at Thamanya is explaining the historical contexts of Arab countries. One of the things that interests me is going into explaining the historical contexts of Saudi regions in greater depth, and searching for new and important details, as we have abundant, exciting and enriching regions. After explaining “Najd” in more than one episode, I would like us to move to the region to which I belong and where I was born, the “Asir” region. So I hosted Dr. Ali Al Qutb, Associate Professor of Modern History at King Khalid University. An abundant episode, with a guest who is very informative, accurate in history, and knowledgeable. We talked about the history of the Asir region before the first Saudi state, who ruled it, what its sect was, what the components of society were at that time, and what the cultural and educational scene was like during the past 300 years. Why did the village appear more in the Asir region than the tribe? How did it deal with the Ottoman invasions and battles in the region? How were the armies formed to defend Asir? And how did they join under the auspices of the first Saudi state? And after the fall of the first Saudi state, how were they affected? And how did you deal with the continuing Ottoman attack, which lasted more than 100 years of conquest and liberation. We expanded our conversation on the second and third Saudi states, the details of Asir's failure to join the second Saudi state, and its success in joining the third. What is the role of the men of Asir and the nature of the relationship between its princes and the imams of the Saudi state, and the efforts of King Abdulaziz in unifying the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
