The commander-in-chief of the new Syrian administration, Ahmad al-Sharaa, said the country was exhausted by war and did not pose a threat to its neighbours or the West. In an interview with BBC World Service editor Jeremy Bowen from Damascus, al-Sharaa called for the lifting of sanctions on Syria. Al-Sharaa said that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham should be removed from the list of terrorist organisations, as designated by the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham began as a splinter group from al-Qaeda and split from the latter in 2016. Al-Sharaa stressed that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is not a terrorist group. #al-Jolani #Syria #Bashar_al-Assad #BBC ----- This is the official BBC News Arabic channel on YouTube.
