Plant Nutrition Book https://amzn.to/2lTQK5H (Molybdenum Mo) Functions, Symptoms, Diagnosis and fertilizers .I. Nutrient Series In acidic soils, molybdenum availability is reduced due to competition with other ions such as sulfate. Liming effect helps to make more Mo available to plants. Research has shown that a base saturation higher than 70% in soybeans requires less Mo than a saturation of 60%. Function in plants • It is mainly related to nitrogenase activity and N fixation (less Mo leads to a decrease in N, which can lead to deficiency). • The brassica family has a greater need for Mo. • It is a constituent of several enzymes that act in the metabolism of nitrogen and sulfur. • Reduction of nitrate and nitrite and biological fixation (nitrogenase). • NO3 to NO2, which is the first step in the incorporation of N as NH2 in proteins. Molybdenum Deficiency • Plants with Mo deficiency may also have N deficiency. • Nutritional levels close to 1 mg kg-1 may vary due to the crop or other factors. • The level of Mo in the Mo-fixing nodules is about 10x higher than in the leaves. Molybdenum-based fertilizers: Studies have shown that in soybeans, seed application of 20g of Mo per Ha increased soybean nodulation and consequently production in Kg/ha. ????
