On May 6, 2019, in the assembly hall of the Sretensky Theological Seminary, Hieromonk Silouan (Nikitin), a resident of the Moscow Sretensky Monastery, held a meeting on the topic: “The Experience of the Spiritual Life of St. Silouan the Athonite.” In his speech, Father Silouan examined the following topics: the biography of the saint; personal ascetic experience; advice on fighting passions and acquiring virtues; Athonite monasticism; the main goal of life is the acquisition of grace; revelation to those who strive: “keep your mind in hell and do not despair”; attitude to modern culture and modern problems; the legacy of the saint. This meeting is a continuation of the project “Orthodoxy. Educational courses for the laity”, carried out by the Sretensky Monastery together with the Sretensky Theological Seminary. The general theme of the meetings of this half-year is “Practical experience of the lives of outstanding pastors of the 19th-20th centuries”.
