The taster delves into the peculiarities of Jewish cuisine. It is characterized by limitless culinary diversity - influenced by the different regions in which Jewish people have lived throughout history. The Ashkenazim form the largest ethno-religious group in Judaism today (around 70%). Their ancestors originally come from Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Romania and other Eastern European countries. Jews from Central European countries such as Germany, Austria, Hungary and France also belong to this group. Life in relatively cold climates gave rise to a peasant cuisine. Jewish dishes such as pastrami, matzo balls, beef brisket, babka, chopped chicken liver or gefillte fish have their roots here. This cuisine was brought to America in large waves of emigration between 1840 and 1920. Many Ashkenazim also live in Israel, South Africa and Australia today. The second large Jewish group are the Sephardim, who originally come from the Iberian Peninsula, particularly Spain and Portugal. After the Spanish Inquisition in the 15th century, members of the Jewish faith fled to Italy, Latin America, North Africa and the Levant. The warm climate and access to a wide range of ingredients gave rise to a varied cuisine based on fresh ingredients, olive oil and many herbs and spices.
