On July 16, at 10 am, the Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns Interfaith Front for Justice and Peace, in partnership with the Justice and Peace Commission of SP, the Arns Commission, the Vladimir Herzog Institute and the OAB-SP, will hold a ceremony in honor of the indigenous rights activist Bruno Pereira and the British journalist Dom Phillips at the Sé Cathedral, in the center of the city of São Paulo. This interfaith meeting aims to highlight the importance of defending the lives, lands and cultures of indigenous and traditional peoples, protecting the environment and those who fight to preserve it, amid systematic and institutionalized violations of rights. The event will be attended by Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists, Pentecostals, Jews, Muslims, Bahá'ís, Buddhists, Kardecists, traditional peoples of African origin and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as representatives of indigenous peoples, human rights defenders and representatives of civil society. Beatriz Matos, Bruno's widow, and Alessandra Sampaio, Dom's widow, will also be present. The event will also feature cultural participation, such as singer Chico César, the indigenous choir Opy Mirim, singer Marlui Miranda and opera singer Tati Helene. Dom Cláudio Hummes, known as the “prophet of the Amazon” for his commitment to the socio-environmental defense of the region, and who passed away on July 4, will also be remembered at the ceremony.
