In addition to being dangerous, it is also the most complicated for the pilot, because a good landing will depend largely on the pilot's skill, but it will also depend on the environmental and structural conditions in which a certain airport is located. For example, in airports that are at high elevation and where the runways are short, it will be much more difficult to land. Other factors that can influence are atmospheric conditions such as temperature, crosswinds, unexpected gusts of wind, wet runways and also turbulence produced by the vortex trails left by large airplanes when taking off. As an old saying in aviation goes: "takeoff is optional but landing is mandatory." Knowing that landing is mandatory, let's see what we can do to bring our airplane to the ground and do it in the most professional and safe way possible. But before continuing, I recommend you watch two of my videos with the titles: how to control an airplane no matter its size and how to take off an airplane no matter its size, in these videos you will learn the principles of flight applied to any airplane and you will also learn how some of the instruments and flight controls work that will not be explained on this occasion. These videos will serve to complement what you learned in this lesson. Let's start by taking a quick tour of the cockpit in order to learn about the essential instruments and controls that you will need to master during the landing phase. 1- Attitude indicator 2- Airspeed indicator 3- Flaps 4- Spoilers Because spoilers have not been mentioned in previous videos, let's see what they are and what their function is. Spoilers are metal plates that are mounted on the upper side of the wings, their main function is to reduce the lift of the wing and increase the resistance of the plane, helping to decelerate. If the spoilers are raised symmetrically during flight, the aircraft will either slow down while maintaining level flight, or descend rapidly without increasing airspeed. These can be deployed via a switch located near the power control in the cockpit. It is important to remember that spoilers are not used on small aircraft. 5- Thrust reversal Thrust reversal is known as reverse thrust or reverse thrust. The resulting deceleration acts against the forward motion of the aircraft, slowing it down. This system is used by many jet aircraft to facilitate braking just after touchdown, which reduces brake effort and allows the aircraft to operate at airports with shorter runways. To activate thrust reversal, simply lift two small controls that are part of the engine power control. Once the aircraft has braked, the reversible ones must return to the neutral position. 6- Landing Gear I will assume you know what landing gear is but I won't assume you know where to extend or retract it, the landing gear switch is always in a very visible position for the pilot...
