The Historic Stadiums series also ends its journey through Brazilian fields at Flamengo's home: the Gávea stadium. The stadium's history begins in 1931, when Clube de Regatas do Flamengo received the Lagoa land as a loan. The club built the José Bastos Padilha Stadium, its first football stadium, still with wooden fences, with a capacity of 6,000 people. The inauguration, however, came later. In a game valid for the 1938 Rio de Janeiro state championship, the red-and-black team from Rio de Janeiro lost to its rival, Vasco, by 2x0. However, six years later, Gávea experienced one of its most exciting moments on its pitch: Flamengo won its first three-time Rio de Janeiro state championship, with a victory over Vasco. It also witnessed the formation of the 1981 world champion team, in addition to a long list of promising young players who were generated on its pitch.
