Lecture by Goran Šarić, a Catholic theologian and historian, on the topic "Jasenovac and Ustaše Genocide in the NDH" (May 7, 2021) - Croatian-Serbian relations are a history of hard words and even harder deeds - said Šarić at the very beginning of the lecture. No crime can be an excuse for another crime that preceded it, and conflicts between Croats and Serbs date back to 1941 and even earlier. The Habsburg authorities still insisted on making Zagreb the center of anti-Slavism as a counterweight to Belgrade. The Ustaše movement was founded by Ante Pavelić with the aim of creating an independent Croatian environment. The NDH was founded - a state of terrorist character, in which Serbs were discriminated against from day one. The Cyrillic alphabet was banned, Serbs were arrested, their property was confiscated. In just twenty days after the creation of the National Democratic Party, Serbs, Jews and Roma experienced an unprecedented tragedy. NDH was under Nazi and fascist protectorate.
