Contractor Josef Altenbuchner from Upper Austria has developed a silage machine that compacts the feed in one operation and packs it in film: the Silospeed! - The machine uses completely normal film that is clamped under the feed stock and seals it. In addition to grass, silage maize, CCM and industrial by-products such as beet pulp can also be ensiled. The high compaction and rapid air exclusion have a positive effect on the feed quality. The laborious silo covering is no longer necessary. During the first cut at the Erbschwendtner farm in Sankt Georgen near Salzburg, we saw the Silospeed in practical use. The chopping was done with a Claas Jaguar 960. This chopper from the 600 HP class doesn't make the silage machine break a sweat. The farmer was on hand with two Steyr tractors and silage tippers for transport. The fields were mown the day before with the Claas Cougar 1400: With five mowers, this self-propelled machine achieves a gigantic working width of 14 meters. Under optimal conditions, the contractor mows up to 20 hectares per hour with the Cougar. This enormous power, combined with the conditioners, enables one-day silage even for large farms. Many thanks to Josef Altenbuchner and his father for the good cooperation in creating this video.
