ENGENHO DIRA Itaporanga D'ajuda - SE 1650 This farm is beautiful and very interesting. One of the oldest I have shown here. It was founded in the 17th century, so it is a historical gem with many details. In 1670, this mill belonged to the family of Dona Maria Augusta Lourenço Sobrau. In 1840, it came to belong to the Dias family, a family descended from the Baron of Estância. There is a beautiful chapel with an imposing door, built in 1703 and inside it there are many historical objects such as perpetual tombs in the ground and the famous “hollow wood saint”. These tombstones belong to the Dias family and to many characters who passed through there. This mill was very important and participated strongly in the sugar cycle and its main activity was the production of sugar cane. The mansion of this mill has its entire structure preserved and its architecture is unique. The interesting thing is that this mansion has two styles from two different periods. One side of the house has square windows, typical of the colonial period, and the other side has an ogive window that belongs to the neo-Gothic period. The house was completely restructured internally because it was completely abandoned, but it remains very charming with many period furniture and stylish details.
